The residents of Tileyard London are no strangers to high end recording facilities, talented songwriters, gifted musicians, successful producers and prolific publishers but one of the latest addition to the Tileyard brand is something really special.
The new world-class, state-of-the-art studio, TYe London, is officially open for business, boasting the largest live-room on-site at Tileyard, it’s becoming known as the new flagship studio here at this growing community of creative businesses in the heart of King’s Cross
Of course, every flagship needs a commanding officer, and Tileyard Education could not be more proud to have partnered with legendary musician, composer and producer, Sean Hargreaves to make this new facility come to life. Sean studied in New York with Barry Harris and at Berklee College of Music. He has appeared on national TV with Michael
Other clients have included A&G Songs and DIY Magazine (both of which are based at Tileyard London), as well as Military Wives and the BBC. Regular clients include Urban Development (a charity which provides support and advice to young people trying to make it in underground music) and ICMP (The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance) who make the most of the versatility of the space. Adjacent to the control room is a classroom which can also be used as a recording room or artist’s lounge, there is also a smaller production suite that can be used as a recording booth in conjunction with the main live room. The set-up is truly unique in the way in which it appeals to both commercial clients as well as educational institutions and community projects, and of course, it is the heart of our very own MA degrees.
The studio features a spacious 32m² control room and 21m² live room, big enough to accommodate up to nine players. It also has a Yamaha U3 piano and a collection of pristine vintage keyboards, including a Hammond organ, which has previously been used on stage by the band, Madness. The studio also hosts a pair of Adams monitors once owned by super-group and godfathers of electronic rave music, The Prodigy (also Tileyard residents).
The future’s bright for TYe London, especially with Sean Hargreaves at the helm. He is a truly talented musician and producer, and he understands the client’s needs, being able to draw upon a wealth of experience to provide a world-class service. He says of his role, “I see the producer’s role as being to support the artist by creating the best possible musical environment for them. This support might include co-writing, musical direction, recording, or arrangement. The variety of the job is one of the things I love most about it. I’m lucky to work with some incredible musicians, so putting great bands together is never an issue, and the same goes for horns and strings. The calibre of talent in London is such that world-class results are consistently achievable, and I aim to facilitate this in the most relaxed yet efficient way I can.”
