A phrase you’ll often hear in the music industry;“Its not what you know, its who you know.”
And this is to a degree, true. Having a healthy contact book full of industry connections could be the very thing to separate you from someone else who is heading towards the same goals. This is why Tileyard Education exists in the heart of the largest professional music community in Europe. All students that spend time on site at our campus, end up making connections and expanding themselves professionally. Whether on-site for 2 weeks or a whole year, there is something for every creative individual at Tileyard London.
One student who is the true embodiment of making the most of his environment, is our Summer Camp Competition winner, Silvan Rupp. Silvan (or RUPP, his artist name) was selected by Tileyard Education, after a flood of competition applications. He was the favourite for his high-level production and ability to work successfully across a range of genres. A recent LIPA graduate, RUPP was awarded for his excellence at LIPA and has already had the opportunity to write with Sir Paul McCartney. RUPP’s application stood out, and we couldn’t wait to see his creations once we’d put him to work.
RUPP was also pleased he was chosen, as he spent competition announcement day in anticipation, gripping his phone in Hyde Park as we called him to share the good news:
“I was checking my phone all day and your social media to find out who won.
I was in Hyde Park when I got the message and I was ecstatic about it . I knew it was a major thing to achieve and I was super happy.”
In the 2 weeks RUPP spent at Tileyard Education, he has been introduced to Notting Hill Music, Tileyard Music, and has had several meetings, including one with Rick Blaskey for The Music and Media Partnership. RUPP will now be working with Rick to develop an X-Factor track, and is attending auditions this week! We can say no more. We can also announce that RUPP found Management during his 2 weeks at Tileyard, but in respect of his privacy, nothing can be announced just yet! But how very exciting!
We also asked RUPP how he’d found all other elements of the camp;
“Really amazing experience. I got to network a lot and it was amazing. We’ve got so many opportunities and fantastic, knowledgeable speakers throughout the camp. They listened to our stuff and gave us their emails address. I am taking with me contacts and feedback.”
You can tell everything is very new, which is great. Other learning facilities don’t have up to date equipment. The whole Tileyard campus is great, the Vinyl Cafe is lovely to meet people in the industry too!”
Up until two weeks ago I was planning to be in London just for 2 days and instead all of these opportunities are unrolling in front of me. I’ve fallen in love with London as well and I am planning to move here to keep my work relentioships growing and I am looking forward to what’s coming. Everything has been so exciting and I loved every second of it.”
RUPP used every moment of his time at Tileyard developing himself professionally, and collaboratively, and his hard work and placement in such a vibrant environment, full of exciting opportunities has truly paid off. We cannot wait to see how RUPP’s career unfolds, and we look forward to seeing him around Tileyard very soon.
