The PRS Member’s council has appointed Ivor Novello Award-winning Singer, Songwriter, and Tileyard Education tutor, Michelle Escoffery as President of the PRS Members’ Council.
Last year, Escoffery was inducted to the Music Week Women in Music 2020 Roll of Honour, and this year she accepted the role of President of the PRS Members’ Council following an ongoing tenure on PRS Foundation’s Board of Trustees.
In this new position, Michelle Escoffery will contribute to develop and deliver a world-class experience to PRS members, advocating for PRS for Music’s songwriters, composers and publishers and acting as an influential intermediary between members, the PRS Members’ Council, and the organisation as a whole.
As part of historic governance changes, the PRS Annual General Meeting that took place last August introduced the newly created role of President. These changes will have a growing positive impact on PRS for Music’s flexibility, cost-effectiveness and agility in decision-making.
Michelle Escoffery will play a crucial role in engaging with members across different genres and all levels of experience in order to understand the diverse hopes and concerns with the ambition to turn ideas into actions that benefit the organisation.
Michelle Escoffery’s role as President of PRS Members Council will provide help and encourage a continuous opened dialogue on inclusion and diversity with the aim to improve equity throughout the organisation and all PRS for Music’s membership.
Escoffery has accumulated a multitude of experience and substantial knowledge in the music industry of over 30 years that she will bring to her brand new role of President of the PRS Members’ Council. She boasts credits for artists such as Tina Tuner, Beverley Knight, All Saints and Artful Dodger and Rod Stewart, as well as having performed with music legends Stevie Wonder and George Michael.
Michelle Escoffery is currently teaching at Tileyard Education as Module Leader for the Commercial Songwriting and Production MA degree located at Tileyard London, the largest independent music community in Europe.
We recently had the opportunity to catch up with Michelle Escoffery, to learn more about her experience and if she had any tips and top advice to share with aspiring artists.
What would be your key tip for aspiring artists?
Work ethic is everything! Set aside time each day to work on your craft. Repetition is the Mother of skill, so just keep practising. Technology is moving so quickly. Stay informed and don’t be afraid to try new things. Keep up to date on key changes in the industry and remember to keep it fun and do what you love!
What would be your top advice of 2021?
BALANCE. Make sure you’re looking after yourself. With so much time in front of a screen these days, prioritise screen breaks. Get away from the computer, rest your ears, stretch your legs and connect with people that make you smile. Self care is more important than ever, so if you’re starting to feel overwhelmed, don’t suffer in silence. I find my creativity is at it’s best when I have a good work/life balance.
