go back

As Term 3 at Tileyard Education begins to draw to a close, more of our students are breaking the convention, and are gaining massive successes before they’ve even graduated. One student who has been shaking up a storm lately is the amazing Haula.

Haula (Nakakembo) started pursuing her career in music in 2014 after already creating a name for herself on London’s underground music scene with her soulful, sultry R&B tones and unforgettable stage presence. In 2016 she won a Record Deal through a Focusrite competition in partnership with Universal Music before even beginning her journey at Tileyard. Since arriving, Haula has been awarded a scholarship by Spitfire Audio to cover her full MA fees, won backing from Help Musicians UK and the MOBO Awards to produce her EP, and Focusrite will be funding the release. That’s quite a year!

Haula also participated in ‘The Big One’, a writing camp hosted at Tileyard Studios with Tileyard Music and Notting Hill Music writers, where she got to collaborate with some big names, and write to current commercial briefs.

Most recently, following her writing camp at Palmer Global Ink in Nashville as part of a Term 3 trip, Haula made her way to New York where she played the iconic Rockwood Music Hall, who’s stage has been graced by names such as Lady Gaga, Jessie J and Mumford and Sons.

Haula has also been making an impressive statement online, with over 3,300 fans on Instagram, her following is growing rapidly. She was recently featured in a New Music Friday Playlist “New Music Friday – Germany / France / Switzerland and Fresh Finds Poptronix / Pop Brandneu” which has had over one million streams!

But this week, Haula reached a groundbreaking figure for any young artist, after her latest release “Trouble”  hit over  100,000 streams on Spotify!

Haula has been extremely busy working behind the scenes getting her new releases prepped, and we can’t wait to hear more!
