It’s been an exciting year at Tileyard Education! With the launch of 2 masters programmes, we have been full steam ahead with launching our students into real industry opportunities, UK and international!
As part of our Commercial Songwriting and Production Masters programme, students participate in 3 songwriting camps over their year of study. Songwriting camps are an effective way for the music industry to create amazing hits, quick! They are a way to pull together some of the most talented writers and producers and get them writing songs, that will then be pitched for major artists to record and sell!
Our writing camps follow the same model as those run by publishers and record labels. We prepare a music brief first thing in the morning, and appoint writers to producers, and leave them in a studio for a whole day to see what creative collaboration can happen! Camps usually run for several days, with each new day bringing in a new brief. In term one, our students are encouraged to write together as part of the first camp, to draw on each other’s strengths and get to know styles for collaboration. In term 2, students write with world-famous topliners and producers, (Penny Foster, Emma Stakes, Michael Angelo and more) at Tileyard Studios, followed by a playback session with Tileyard Music and other publishers. And in Term 3, we run international camps so our students can experience working with international writers!
This year our students had the choice of going to Palmer Global Ink in Nashville, or AP Academy, Stockholm. Both camps are a fantastic way for our students to connect to the global music market and make some amazing contacts along the way! One of our core USP’s at Tileyard Education is growth through networking and collaboration. Students got to meet and learn from some incredible international producers and writers, as well as learning new writing styles to enhance their practice.
During their time at each camp, students were encouraged to immerse themselves fully into the culture and landscape of what is on offer in these rich historical and musical backdrops.
Each camp closed with a playback party, to listen to the collaborations and ideas that had creatively sprouted during their time at the camp. Tileyard Education also took Tileyard-based Producer Steve Manovski and Songwriter Sarah Manovski to Nashville to enhance the collaborative experience. Jon Kelly, world famous producer (worked with Paul McCartney, Kate Bush) was taken to Stockholm to work with the students as part of the camp there.
We’re now looking to build and expand our network with both international hubs, so our students continue to get the most benefit out of their experience at these locations whilst studying at Tileyard Education.
