martynRenowned musician, composer, producer, co-founder of Illustrious and Tileyard Education Principle, Martyn Ware, has created an idyllic 3D SoundScape for The Forest of Imagination in Bath called ‘The Beauty of Children At Play’. The exhibit sits “beneath the canopy of the Kingsmead Square Tree” describes Forest’s website.

Martyn is a lecturer and module leader for Tileyard Education’s course, MA Commercial Songwriting and Production. This year, for his SoundScape exhibit, Martyn commissioned two of his and Tileyard Education’s very own students, Duncan Brookfield and ZoZo Mermaid to assist him in composing the piece.

ZoZo Mermaid “created a piece that is joyful and full of melodies drifting in and out, along with SoundScape elements in the background”. Her instrumental piece includes drum and percussion elements, which “were made by recording taps on tables, claps, nails, and clicks”. Ms. Mermaid has “been wanting to be involved in the SoundScape installation world for some time” and is thrilled to have been presented this opportunity. She looks forward to visiting the installation.

Duncan will also be spending time at The Forest of Imagination next week in Bath as part of the installation’s debut.

The Forest of Imagination will be celebrating its fifth anniversary. The 3-day festival will take place on 28-30 September, and will be taking over Kingsmead Square, Avon Street and Bath Quays connecting the city to the River Avon, creating four unique ‘Future Forest’ areas. Curated by co-founders Penny Hay and Andrew Grant, the 3 days are constructed with a vision to support artists from myriad disciplines.
